The Handyman skill is a roll-up abstraction for most game useful build/repair skills in the modern world. Handyman allows a player to do most repair and build Challenges for broken technology. This also allows for the repair of armor and broken weapons. There will necessarily be a lot of overlap with the Technical Science skill, and we anticipate many challenges in which players with Handyman and Technical Science work together. For gameplay purposes, here are the methods of using the Handyman skill. Tools are necessary for all Handyman Challenges unless otherwise specified.
Many tasks will require raw materials or parts, which are hard to come by these days. The Harvest task may be used to obtain Structural resources or Parts resources from otherwise unusable objects. Gear-bought items may be harvested with the default Tasks below - other items may have Challenge notes on them for Harvesting...if you're not sure, ask a GM.
Damaged armor may only normally be restored to "Simple" level. Under special circumstances, Survivors may have access to facilities in game that allow for the repair of armor to a level higher than "Simple" (if the original armor was of a higher level). Those facilities will be noted in game, and will have appropriate Challenge notes for use. Otherwise, use the default Task below.
Survivor Players are responsible for their own weapon/armor props - Source will not be providing Boffer making supplies or completed weapons to anyone but Cast. Anyone making weapons in character must also have a method to create Source legal boffer weapons as well (or have them pre-made in OOG storage).
A weapon or shield may be "reinforced" with metal to make it harder to break. A Reinforced weapon or shield can ignore the first "Break" call it is subjected to.
